How do I convert a PNG to JPG?
Add the PNG above, choose the quality and click “Convert to JPG”. The converted picture downloads as a new file, and your PNG remains untouched. For a single image it takes a couple of seconds.
The most common reason is size. A phone screenshot or an edited photo saved as PNG easily reaches several megabytes, while the JPG version of the same picture is a fraction of that. When a form says “JPG, maximum 2 MB”, this is usually the fix.
Tip: Photos and scenes convert beautifully. For screenshots with a lot of small text, use a high quality setting so the letters do not pick up fuzz.
Why convert PNG to JPG to make a file smaller?
The two formats compress differently. PNG is lossless, so nothing is discarded and every pixel is kept. JPG averages out fine detail that is hard to see, which is why photographs shrink so dramatically. A holiday photo may fall to a small share of its PNG size with no visible difference.
Flat graphics behave the other way: a simple logo may be tiny as PNG and larger as JPG. Judge by content. Photographs and complex pictures gain from JPG, while simple artwork may not.
What should I know before converting?
- Transparency is lost. A see-through background becomes a solid color, so keep PNG for logos that go over other designs.
- Repeated saving adds damage. Convert once from the best original, and avoid re-saving the JPG many times.
- Check text. Zoom into small lettering in the preview before you save.
- Need a precise limit? Follow with Compress image to aim for 1 MB, 500 KB or 200 KB.
If you need a PNG again later, use JPG to PNG, but remember it cannot bring back detail the JPG already dropped.
Is it safe to convert PNG to JPG online?
Yes. You open the page online, but the conversion happens inside your own browser. The PNG is read, turned into JPG and returned on your device, and nothing about the file, its name or its size is sent to a server. That matters when a screenshot shows names, numbers or messages.
Once you have used it, the tool keeps working without a connection. You can check the privacy yourself in your browser’s network tab, where you will see no upload.
