Rotate an image online for free and fix a photo that opens sideways or upside down. Add one JPG, PNG or WebP picture or a whole batch, turn each one left or right in steps of 90 degrees (or flip it), and download them the right way up. It works in the browser on a phone or computer with no app and no account, and the picture is rotated on your own device, so it is never uploaded.

Why rotate images with us

Turn right

Rotate a quarter turn clockwise, ideal for a landscape shot that was saved lying on its side.

Turn left

Rotate a quarter turn the other way. Click again for a half turn, or a three-quarter turn if you need it.

Live preview

See the picture turn before you save, so you stop at the orientation that looks right instead of guessing.

Fixes phone photos

Some pictures from phones open sideways on a computer or in a form. Save them upright once and they stay that way.

Keeps your format

A JPG stays a JPG and a PNG stays a PNG. Pair it with the Convert image tool if you also want another format.

Rotated on your device

Your browser does the turning. The picture is not sent to a server, so private photos remain private.

How to use 3 steps

  1. 01

Select or drop your images into the box above.

  2. 02

Turn or flip each picture, or select several and turn them together, until they are upright.

  3. 03

Click "Save" and download the corrected files.

How do I rotate an image?

Add the pictures above and use the turn buttons to rotate each one left or right until it looks correct in its thumbnail. Select several (or use Select all) to turn them together. Then click Save and download the files, as one ZIP when there are several. You get the corrected picture as a new file and your original stays as it was.

Each click is a quarter turn. Two clicks in the same direction give an upside-down photo the right way up. The preview updates immediately, so there is nothing to calculate.

Tip: If a portrait photo needs to be a different shape afterwards, rotate first and crop second. The frame then lines up with the picture the way you will see it.

Why do some photos open sideways?

A phone records the way you held it as a small note inside the picture file rather than rotating the pixels. Programs that read the note show the photo upright, while others ignore it and display the raw sideways pixels. That is why an image can look right in your gallery and wrong in an upload form or a document.

Rotating and saving a new copy here writes the correct direction into the picture itself, so every program shows it the same way. It is a quick repair for photos that keep appearing on their side.

How do I rotate a scanned or photographed document?

  • Sideways page. Turn it a quarter in the direction that makes the text read left to right.
  • Upside down. Turn it twice, to 180 degrees.
  • Slightly crooked. Quarter turns do not fix a small tilt. Retake the photo flat, or crop to trim the skewed edge.
  • Need a smaller file after? Rotate first, then use Compress image so you do not shrink the picture twice.

Receipts and certificates that must be read on a small screen are worth checking in the preview before saving, since a sideways document is hard to read.

Is it safe to rotate an image online?

Yes. You open the tool online, but the rotating runs inside your browser. The picture is read, turned and returned on your own device, and nothing about the file, its name or its size is sent to a server.

After the first visit it keeps working without a connection. If you would like to verify, watch your browser’s network tab while you rotate a photo. You will see no file leave the device.

Questions answered

How do I rotate a photo that opens sideways?

Add it above, click the turn button until the picture looks right in its thumbnail, then click Save and download it. The saved file will open upright from then on.

Can I rotate by an angle other than 90 degrees?

This tool turns in quarter steps (90, 180 and 270 degrees). That covers sideways and upside-down photos, which are the usual problems, without leaving empty corners.

Does rotating reduce the quality of my image?

Quarter turns do not blur the picture, because the pixels are simply rearranged. Re-saving a JPG may apply light compression, so keep your original as well.

Why does my photo look fine on my phone but sideways elsewhere?

Phones often note the intended orientation inside the file, and not every program honors it. Saving a rotated copy here bakes the correct direction into the pixels.

Can I rotate several pictures at once?

Yes. Add them all, turn the ones that need it, or select a few and turn them together, then save. Each picture keeps its own turn, and several results download as one ZIP.

Is it safe to rotate an image online?

Yes, here nothing is uploaded. The rotation is done in your browser on your device, so your photos never go to a server. It is free with no sign-up.
