How do I crop an image?
Add the picture above and a frame appears on top of it. Drag the frame to cover what you want to keep, pull its edges to make it larger or smaller, and click “Crop image”. The part outside the frame is removed and you download the result as a new file. Your original is left as it was.
Take a moment to place the frame deliberately. Leave a little breathing room around a face or product, because it is easy to trim too tight and impossible to put pixels back once the file is saved.
Tip: If you are unsure, crop a bit wider than you need. You can always trim again, but you cannot recover edges that were already cut.
How do I crop a 3x4 photo for an application or ID?
Many application forms ask for a passport-style portrait in a 3:4 shape. Choose that ratio and the frame locks to the right proportions, so you only have to decide where it sits. Place the face roughly in the center with the head and shoulders inside, and leave a small margin above the hair.
The 3x4 pas foto preset saves the photo at exactly 354 by 472 pixels, which prints at 3 by 4 cm at 300 dpi. The plain 3:4 preset keeps the shape but not a set size, so if the form states another size, crop to 3:4 first and then use Resize image to set the exact figure. If it also limits the file size, finish with Compress image.
Which crop ratio should I use?
- 3x4 pas foto. Indonesian ID photos, saved at exactly 354 by 472 pixels.
- 3:4. Portrait photos for applications and ID-style uploads.
- 4:3. Landscape photos in the classic camera shape.
- 1:1. Profile pictures and avatars on social and messaging apps.
- 16:9. Banners, video thumbnails and wide covers.
- Freehand. When you are removing a distracting edge or a stray object and the final shape does not matter.
Check the live preview before you save. A ratio that fits a landscape photo may cut off a head in a tall one, in which case turn the picture with Rotate left or Rotate right, or pick another shape. Flip horizontal fixes a mirrored selfie.
Is it safe to crop an image online?
Yes. You open the tool online, but the cropping happens inside your own browser. The picture is read, trimmed and handed back on your device, and nothing about the file, its name or its size is sent to a server. This matters for pictures of people and identity documents.
After the first visit the tool keeps working without a connection. You can also prove it to yourself: open the network tab in your browser, crop a photo and see that no upload takes place.
