How do I convert Markdown to PDF?
Drop your .md file into the box above. The browser reads the markup, turns it into a formatted layout and builds a PDF you can download. You do not need a command-line tool or an editor plugin. The original Markdown is not touched, so you can keep editing it and convert again whenever the text changes.
The result follows the structure of the file. A line that starts with one hash becomes the biggest heading, two hashes a section heading, and so on. Dashes and numbers at the start of lines become lists. Words wrapped in asterisks turn bold or italic, and fenced code keeps its spacing.
Tip: Write one top-level heading as the title and use second-level headings for sections. The PDF then reads like a proper document with clear steps.
Why turn Markdown into a PDF at all?
Markdown is a lovely way to write and a poor way to hand a document to someone else. Open a .md file in a basic viewer and the reader sees pound signs, asterisks and backticks instead of a finished page. Many people do not have a program that renders it, and email or form systems may not accept the extension.
A PDF is the document the Markdown was always describing. It looks the same on every device, prints cleanly and can be attached anywhere. If you have documentation for a client, a study summary for a classmate or a README you want to review on paper, PDF is the format everyone can open.
What can I do with the PDF afterwards?
- Number the pages. Add page numbers for a longer document so readers can find their place.
- Merge with other files. Combine the converted notes with a cover page or other documents.
- Mark it as a draft. Stamp DRAFT or the reader’s name across the pages before circulating it.
- Shrink it. If the PDF is for email, the Compress tool trims any extra weight.
- Print it. Review a long README or spec on paper without clutter.
Is it safe to convert Markdown to PDF online?
Yes. You use a web page, but the formatting and PDF building happen in your own browser. Your file is read locally, laid out in memory and given back to you as a download. It is never uploaded, so unreleased documentation, client notes and personal journals do not reach a server.
You can verify this by watching the network tab in your browser while you convert. No file data goes out, and the tool does not fetch remote images embedded in your text. There is nothing to install and no account to create, and closing the tab removes the text from the page.
